Elder Mediation Training Day 4

 

Date and time: Spring 2024 - date tbc 9.30am to 5.00pm

Course Details

This course follows on from Elder Mediation Training Day 3. However, the courses are in modular format so it is possible to do Day 4 without having completed Days 1, 2 and 3. It focuses on understanding and managing family dynamics in elder mediation and handling the initial phone call from clients. It also provides an opportunity for skills development through role play using EMIN self-assessment guidelines.

The training hours are recognised by the MII for 7 CPD hours and by the Elder Mediation International Network (EMIN) for certification purposes.

Course Content 

Understanding and Managing Intergenerational Family Dynamics in Elder Mediation

 Family of origin and current family; differences and potential issues

 Dynamics of ‘normal’ ageing and family relationships

 Issues of changing family roles

 The ‘family reunion’ around ageing parents; specific characteristics and challenges

 Denial and resistance to outside help

 

The initial phone call

 Specific skills required

 Key information

 Strategies for moving the case forward

 

Role play

 Transfer of learning through skills practice

 Videod role play using using EMIN self-assessment tool

Learning Outcomes

Participants will gain:

 knowledge about and insight into understanding and managing family dynamics in elder mediation

 skills and strategies for handling the initial phone call

 skills development through role play practice using the EMIN certification self-assessment guidelines

The course will be interactive and will allow time for discussion and questions.

The training hours in this course are recognised by the Elder Mediation International Network (EMIN) for certification purposes and the MII for CPD purposes.
